4 out of 5 stars Better than the Critics THink   April 22, 2010

I have just completed this game - a rare feat for me, which should show how much I like it.
Although The Saboteur could be summed up as Grand Theft Auto:Paris, that would be to do it a disservice. It is a huge open world game - not just the entire city of Paris, but also several other towns such as Le Havre (thankfully a much shorter drive than in real life!). Gameplay is solid, with a good story, several side-missions, and literally thousands of extra targets to blow up as you wish. There are also lots of collectibles, if you are that sort of trophy hunter that must achieve 100% in everything.
There is a good variety of missions, with some designed to make things go bang, some timed, some assassinations, some racing, some area defense, and so on. There is no shortage of variety. The ability to climb almost any structure is also a positive addition.
The negatives: Some sort of fast travel system would be nice. It can take a long time to get from one side of the map to the other, which, while realistic, is also occasionally frustrating. Also some of the missions are b*stard hard, trying to find your way into a certain area without being triggering alarms, or finding a specific item to blow up.
However, overall, I would highly recommend The Saboteur.

One final note. As an Irishman, I fell over laughing at Sean Devlin's comments on more than one occasion. Foul, but hilarious!

I,ve completed 100% of this game, freeplay and missions, and can state it is by far the best game i have played on the PS3. Sure there's the odd glitch and some of the cut cut scenes are a bit corny, but which game doesn't have these? There is a good mixture of easy and hard missions and the driving takes a bit of getting used to, but in the end it's all good. A game should be about having fun and this game kept amused for hours. Most days after work i couldn't wait to switch on and get stuck in! I would advise you to complete a few of the freeplay targets as you go, as it can be a bit easy if you leave it all to the end.

A gorgeous little game that can supply hours of fun. A brilliant playlist (unfortunately not all world war II songs) for when you're driving around.

A lot like Grand Theft Auto only, in my opinion, BETTER. Very underrated. The array of weapons is amazing and you are able to choose with doing a mission stealthily or go the whole hog, get on an anti-aircraft gun and give 'em hell.

Whilst most other reviews make inevitable comparisons to other free roaming third person chaos causing shooty driving like a lunatic and visiting brothels type games, I shall try not to fall in to that trap, instead I'll review The Saboteur on it's own merits, which after three weeks of playing, are many.
Firstly, there is no denying that this is a stylish game with some great music and loads of attitude. From the first few setup missions ( where you race in the Saarbruken Grand Prix )to your arrival in occupied Paris, the plot grabs one's attention and keeps you playing on.
As the missions progress, you are asked to take on ever more dangerous and reckless attacks on various Nazi targets in and around Paris, with main plot missions and side missions which help to "inspire" the French people and rise up against the Nazi tyrants. This combined with hundreds (literally) of free-play targets makes for hours of sneaking, sniping and sabotage. There is something quite satisfying about planting dynamite, lighting it and standing just out of range smoking a cigarette (L3) and watching a German fuel depot blow sky high. Equally, sniping a Nazi General in the head leaves you with a sense of elation.
There is, of course, more than one way to approach you're objectives such as stealth killing any Nazi you can tip-toe up to and braking his neck, then steal his uniform. One nice touch is that when disguised, you have to "walk like a Nazi" to avoid suspicion.
As for the climbing and driving, both are fairly standard with the climbing sometimes time consuming and lacking the dare devil leap from high roofs like a certain Italian assassin.....the driving is what you expect with pedestrians throwing themselves in front of you're sports car like Gallic lemmings while you speed around Paris listening to Nina Simone.
There are a couple og glithes ( guard's floating mid-air is one ) but nothing that ruins the gameplay. The weapons are a history lesson in themselves and La Resistance fighters will come to your aid when in a pickle, or a jam, or mustard.
So, glad I got hold of The Saboteur, I've had hours of enjoyment playing it and I may even go through it again, only this time on "Feckin' Hard".

5 out of 5 stars The Saboteur Review   April 4, 2010

Bought this game as it reminds me of gta san andreas and was correct

The game is one or not in the top 10 games in the country

When i first played it the controls were difficult but you soon get used to it

The storyline is gripping and keeps you in your seat

About 25% to 40% of the missons get a lot harder and trust me on this one

The only let down is the ending as it was quick and easy

Apart from that the game is a hit for me

Would recommend to all gta and saints row fans
