Great Play. May 23, 2010 Scott Crossman (England) The original Assassins Creed was the first game I had played on the generation of consoles, and I was hooked from the moment I played it.
So when Assassins creed 2 came out, it was a no brainer for me, I had to buy it.
This game features a brand new Assassin, a young Italian by the name of Ezio. I was a fan of Altair in the original, so I was a bit weary of this new character. One thing I was happy about was that Ezio was given a Italian accent (In the original, Altair had an American accent, despite being from the middle east).
The storyline carries on straight from where Assassins Creed 1 had left it, and from the start you're plunged straight into the action. By the end of game, you'll still be left with many questions, as with the original game, the game will end with a big "What the hell" moment which will leave you wanting to find out what happens next.
The games does have some downsides though.
The combat system still needs work in my opinion. The enemy A.I are still to easy. You could be in a open fight with 10+ guards and still not get hit even once. I want the enemy to be hard, I want an excuse to actually use the stealth aspects of the game to kill my opponents, but when its so easy to fight multiple guards in an open fight, why bother?
For instance, the game has a "blend" feature. You can go into a crowd of people to hide from guards, or sit on a bench, or even hide in a stack of hay, but its much quicker to quickly kill these guards, than hide from them, so I hardly ever used these stealth avoidance techniques.
The game also lacks a "replay sequence" option as Assassins Creed 1 had. This means once you complete the game, you can't replay previous missions you may like to play again, unless you start a whole new game.
Overall though, I still don't regret buying this game. My expectations were probaly to high for this game before it was released, hopefully the next in the series will address some of this games problems. But don't get me wrong, this game is very enjoyable, and still I think, one of the best games of 2009.
One of the most overhyped and most dissappointing games ever made May 19, 2010 sackboy 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
Great graphics, but a pathetic storyline that could have been written better by a 9 year old, annoying controls, and endless repetitive missions. Incredible how a game with so much potential could become so dull. Gave up even bothering to finish it. Trading it in for Red Dead Redemption which looks like someone has actually thought about a coherent and interesting story.
Avoid.
One of my absolute favourites May 12, 2010 Yer man, the baldy fella (Dublin, Ireland) As another reviewer has written, this game is most definitely a cut above. Beautifully crafted, deeply engrossing and - dare I say it - educational (if you want it to be). One of the few games that didn't disappoint when the sequel came along. Let's hope Ubisoft don't lose the plot with Brotherhood.
Creed II May 10, 2010 N A Lennon (Watford) A truely awesome game of rennaissance swashbuckling.
Vastly improving on the original game Assassins Creed II takes the stealth and combat game play of the original and improves on it with some basic character development, breath taking graphics and a much more open playing area.
The only aspect I did not like about the game was the insistance of interrupting your stint as an assassin to return to this plot about you being a time traveller from the future controlling the assassin. Although there are less of these interruptions than in the original it is annoying and could easily have been left out completely.
Back in rennaissance Italy though you are able to control your assassin character in a number of ways from free running, to stealth kills to old fashioned sword play. Your character learns along with you as you play, introducing new weapons and techniques in a similar way to the first game. There is so much more in this though as you can buy weapons and armour, choosing ones which you prefer and even modifying the colours of your outfit for the ultimate in style.
Although there are plenty of plot related missions which develop the story there are also endless numbers of other missions you can perform to practice your skills and earn money. In fact after the story finishes it allows you to continue playing these random missions as long as you wish.
The game is based in renaissance Italy and you explore a number of beautifully realised cities such as Florence and Venice. All the cities have their own unique look to them and are wonderful to explore even without doing any missions. There seem to be a lot more types of civilians behaving in different ways than in the first game, enough to lose yourself in the feel of another time and place.
Combat is, perhaps, a little too easy. Once you have the timing of the attack, parry and counter attack moves right you will rarely be challenged in open combat. If you are injured there are always ways to mend your armour or heal up, in fact healing kits can be used in the middle of combat. I don't often say this but I would reccomend playing this game on the Hard difficulty setting right from the start. Your initial game may take longer to complete that way but you will love every minute of it.
All in all I would highly reccomend this game. Its extremely addictive and playable and if you love history it is a great way to experience it from a unique perspective.
Assassins Creed 2- Ignore 1 Star Reviews May 9, 2010 Mr. C. W. Finch I don't understand some people rating this game 1 Star. Take these on board at your peril. I understand points about screen tearing would dampen the experience a little but if the game is going to be punished then maybe drop it by a Star. Everyone has their own opinion but I would not be put off buying this game in the slightest. I am actually very impressed by the in game graphics eg the detail of the horses found in the game are very decent and their mannerisms are quite authentic.
Also giving this a low rating and saying the controls are hard to work out means nothing to anybody else. Its nobody elses fault if you can't play the game! Perhaps a Disney game would suit your requirements more.
In my opinion this is one of the best games on the PS3, providing a good story line together with nice action sequences and puzzle solving. Perhaps there are some graphic glitches due to the game being released across platforms and I actually don't have 100% faith in Ubisoft however, this is a very enjoyable game and I wouldn't rate it any lower. Make of the poor reviews what you will but I recommend anybody to purchase the game and see for yourselves.
