Not for me February 22, 2010 Mr. James A. N. Morgan (London) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
A very basic style of game play, reminded me of a ps2 game rather than a next gen one.
Actions look forced and unnatural and despite the fact that the world was impressive at times, a large amount of it is merely scenery and rocks and ledges which appear perfectly traversable cannot be stepped on. As other reviews have mentioned, many of the features from the film were lost when making the game, such as the navi/animal link (through the hair).
One of the main issues I had was the fact that there are so few places you can travel in comparison to the map. Only certain vines can be climbed (in a very basic style as well) and the banshees can only land on specific areas as well.
If anyone is in the mood for what can only be described as a good playstation 2 game, then go ahead, but this did not reach a decent enough standard for the PS3
ADICTIVE February 22, 2010 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I got this game for christmas and when i started to play I couldn't stop. Everytime you complete a mission it leads so smoothly to the next there is no point in which you aren't engaged in trying to complete something. I have completed the game on both sides in about 11 hours of play time for the RDA and also about 11 hours of play time for the Navi. I am now trying to complete the trophies aswell as it supports the PS3 trophie system. I also enjoy the online modes as they are competetive and fun to play. The graphics in this game are great and I haven't got a 3D supported TV in my house but i noticed it has a 3D option. When i first started to play the game i was hesitant to whether i should wait to watch the film as most film to game conversions reveal the story line but this game does not and actuall has two story lines in it. This game is a great buy and I would recomend it to all.
fun February 19, 2010 Ms. H. Oldfield (hammer HQ) The game is good - the campaign consists of various missions that can get a bit repetitive and the online play is a good but can be one sided as not many people are into it yet. However I think it is very good how they split the campaign into to bits Humans/Na'vi which makes the game doubly long. The banshee riding is good fun as is the riding in a scorpion.
Overall, a very enjoyable experience but has small faults that need attention.
more ching £/$ February 19, 2010 Oliver Ashworth (Chester' England) Avatar the game was released on December 1 2009 and was developed by Ubisoft in there studio
''Videogame adaptation of Cameron's universe doesn't quite deliver'' IGN UK
you get a choice to play as either the Navi or the RDA
The Navi want to wipe the RDA off the face of there planet because they are destroying there villages and taking there natural resources, the RDA argue that they want to bring peace but judging by flames and piles of Navi corpses in destinations on the planet this agreement dosn't seem to have worked out. On the Navi campaign they sabotage RDA equipment allowing them to venture deeper into RDA territory without getting picked up on radar then they lay a final assualt on the RDA HQ and drive these crazy apes armed with assualt rifles off there homeland.
The RDA campaign involves you to collect shards of a mineral called Ubotanium to tune tree's that sing and then record the sound and put it into a machine called the Emulator which narrows the singing trees location to the dormant well of souls which keep the planet alive and well.
I didn't want to be the evil marine on the campaign but I just found playing as them better becuase when playing as a Navi your character suffers from screen tearing and it just is not enjoyable to squish mice in armour with a staff. The marine has a digital map on the side of the screen allowing you to see short routes to your location however the Navi don't have that privilage, so you have to find your location using trial and error. Combat as a marine is also far more enjoyable shooting towering 8ft blue giants weilding huge clubs that send you flying across screen makes the combat addictive and fast paced. Both races have abilities that power up from XP gainage you get in combat this is very helpful especially if you see an army of Navi or RDA soldiers in front of you, the answer is simplay turn invisible and sneak round them, if there is a pack of viperwolves after you summon flesh eating bats or call in airstrike, if your damaged you can heal yourself and if you just want to get away from hostiles as quickly as possible you can use extreme speed so the abilities option is very helpful.
Online on avatar is great fun
you select your teams then you can customize your character with weapons, armour and abilities you think you will use in battle, the trick to know who is going to win the battle is the terrain if its short and narrow the Navi will have the advantage with there speed and melee weapons if its in a large open ground the RDA will becuase they have lots of firepower so will mow down the Navi before they get close.

Overall: I don't think avatar the game was a phenomenon in my gaming experience but its definatly worth a rental and is a good game for a movie tie in.
2 games in one February 19, 2010 E. K. Moat (UK) Just a couple of niggles, I'm not sure if this is the PS3 or the game that is acting up, but it only happens with this game. After playing for a few hours the colours on the screen seem to go all fluorescent sometimes, at first I thought I had wandered into a radioactive location or something, but it happened in locations I had previously visited in the game as well and only went back to normal after leaving the game and returning hours later. Also at one point the right stick on the controller ceased to funtion in the middle of a mass viperwolf attack, not very convenient not to be able to turn around when you're being attacked from all sides !
As for the gameplay, the enemies (and a bit of the scenery) get a bit samey after a while, but the quests are quite interesting and there are other sub quests to keep you occupied, like exploring 100% of the areas, activating all the Ammo pods and transporters/trees of life, collecting parts from scrap etc, etc.
The best bit is though, you get two games in one. At one stage, early on in the game, you have the option of joining the Na'avi clan or the RDA. Whichever one you choose, your profile is saved at this point so you can play the game to the end as one clan then go back to this point and choose the other and play the game again.
The only thing missing is a melee weapon when you're playing as RDA (unless I've missed something in the weapons).
Overall a very entertaining game, would have given it 5 stars apart from the above niggles and samey enemies.
