5 out of 5 stars Enter The World. Ignite The War   July 31, 2010
James Ronan
Hands down Avatar the game is the best Movie Game Adaption I have ever played. The game provides Avatar fans with a great gaming experience that provides fun gameplay and action as well as informative information on the flora and fauna of Pandora as well as there main inhabitants the Navi. While the game is completlty different from the film the game does a great job in providing a fun and interesting gaming experience that for many movie games doesnt happen. So what makes Avatar the game so special? The games graphics are beautiful. Pandora in video game form looks as good as it could get. The game is both colourful and vibrant and show cases lots of flora that is seen in the movie. Even the Helicordium Spirale the plant that Jake touches in the film and shrinks is in this game. All the plants do there thing whether it is shrink or spit acid you name it its in here. Pretty much all the creatures from the film are in here as well from the Ikran/Banshee and Thanator to the Hexapede and Strumbeest pretty much all of the creatures in the movie are in this game. They all have their own Ai and I was surpirsed to see esspecially the Viper Wolves that in game they are very inteligent. If you stay out of range from them as a Navi you can see them attacking Strumbeest as well as Hexapede, and they will also occasionally attack each other if you watch and stay out of the way.

Even though this game is pretty much fault less there are a couple of problems though they dont hinder the game hardley at all. The first is that there are pretty much Viperwolves in every area. Now this isnt really a problem what is is that they attack you pretty much all the time and other AI controlled Navi will kill them as well. In the film however we are told that the Navi repect their environment as well as the animals in it. So why are they killing the Viperwolves when in the film were told otherwise? The game is pretty much all fighting this is because the war has already started once your on Pandora. So your pretty much bumping Humans off when ever you encounter them. Whilst this provides a need for strategy to get passed them it also means you will die countless times getting shot from behined as well as shot from the sides because the Humans are so small to a 10 foot tall alien. The story endings are also quite weak and there is no bonding of the Queues between the Direhorses the Banshees or the Thanator of which was shown in the film. You also cant fight while on a Banshee or Direhorse you can just fly and run or walk with them which is also quite disapointing if you wanted to have an air battle or a riding fight.

These are very minor issues however that Avatar fans like me pick up on. Dont let this stop you from buying the game because it is the best mive game I have ever played.

It should be noted that the story in this game is not the same as the film at all, and that characters like Neytiri, Tsu'tey and Jake Sully are not in game. You a compleltlty different person in this game. The game also has a 3D option so if you have a 3D TV you can play the game in 3D. The game also has Online Mutiplayer 2-16 players and has a minimum of 3.0GB of HDD memory. It is one player and is in both 720p 1080P and 1080I HD.

James Camerons Avatar The Game is one of the best movie adaptions of a film I have come across. The game provides a fun experience that doesnt fall short of the movie at all and provides Avatar fans with what they have been waiting for to Enter The World And Ignite The War.

1 out of 5 stars Avatar Game - why did the pick the dummy aspects only?   June 21, 2010
B. Honemann
Avatar, the movie, had - to formulate it very black and white - two primary aspects:
One was the "high end" socio-culturally critical "why do humans with their eternal greed have to ruin all ecosystems?" We got a glimps at a fascinating world, worth exploring. The smarter aspect of human nature - be curious, find out what you can and enjoy the wonders but don't destroy them. Like an adventure hike through a rainforest on a different planet with different evolution. Something to think about and maybe a message worth remembering (ecosystems are precious + fun to explore).

Second was the dummy aspects for jarhead wanabes and patridiots, basically catering to the lowest human intellects (the typical stuff to entertain the atrophied brains of well functioning human livestock, the backbone of the economy, the well indoctrinated and uncritical consumers and voters). So a lot of violence, pathos, and "hero" ethics for the intellectually challenged, whom the politicians and corporations love so much.

I greatly enjoyed the movie for the first aspect - the world they created was just amazing. I wanted to be there. I wanted to explore. I wanted to know it's secrets and immerse myself in it's wonders. And that's what I was looking for in the game. I expected sort of Morrowind: the elder scrols - Oblivion on Pandora. Full freedom to roam in a superbly stunning setting.

I should have checked better, prior to "pre ordering" the game (on the cover it said "explore Pandora" - pah!) - because it unfortunately is solely about the idiot stuff (run about hectically and kill everything designated as enemies). Perfect junkfood for mainsteam, uninspired shoot-them-uppers. Why bother with the Pandora scenario, when it's just another mediocre "run around and kill all the bad guys" thingy?

Is this really what the mainstream gamers want? Collect trophies and kill? Just keep shooting and running and never stop because then your brain might begin to work (and - beware - produce thought or even develop curiosity)? Is this what the mainstream consumers want from a potentially inspiring and fascinating Pandora - just run around and be violent? Then it's no wonder the world is in the shape it's in today. Another wasted opportunity to inspire. Another effective crowd-pleaser (or should I say pacifier?), which dulls down potentially creative and imaginative human brains by multi-media-overload.

Anyhow, my fault for not waiting for more reviews prior to buying. Whoever else is looking for a fantastic and fascinating world to explore - this is not your game.
If you just want to kill stuff (virtually), you might give it a try and get happy with the game.

Sorry for the misantropic review. I'm just so disappointed in this game ... maybe I'm getting old, but I really miss smart creativity, where the content matters, not just the fancy packaging.

2 out of 5 stars Brilliant Movie, let down of a game   May 7, 2010
James C. Mulvaney (Bolton)
Dont be fooled about the great movie, this game is not very good at all. the missions are very difficult and complicated at most times. it may be cheap but you should buy a different game than this, a real let down.PS3 name: jmulvaney

5 out of 5 stars For a game made from a film this is brilliant!   March 22, 2010
Mrsa Foster
Having not been able to get to see the film, due to an accident and being stuck indoors, I ordered this game with not much hope to be honest. It was however brilliant and I played it through twice straight away - once as a soldier and once as an avatar. Much recommended!
