Poor Tomb Raider rippoff July 20, 2010 D-Dom (UK) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Uncharted is Tomb Raider with the interesting puzzles and exciting platforming removed. The only thing it does better than TR gameplay-wise is the shooting, but TR's shooting is terrible so that's not saying much.
The game clunks along at the same monotonous pace for the entire game, going from one dull fight, to frustrating climb, to simplistic puzzle, to another fight, to yet another boring climb, to more simplistic puzzles... etc etc.
I don't know how many different character models the developers used but every fight seemed to be against the same group of riciculously ducking and dodging men. Laughably once I even found myself fighting 2 men at the same time who were exactly the same character (twins perhaps). And who were all these endless waves of men popping up all the time? More to the point, who cares?
I wasn't bowled over by the look of the game either because good that it was at first it never changed, EVERYWHERE looked the same.
On the plus side, the acting was very good and for a game the script was extremely well written, but I was so bored with the game-play I didn't really care where the story went, or what happened to the characters.
If you like the shooting then you'll no doubt enjoy this game, if not then like me you'll probably find the game a choir.
Fantastic Game July 17, 2010 Shaun Connolly The one good thing about this game is the actual depth, in total there are 22 long chapters all containing moments of action where you need to fight of soldiers or demons, also all containing moments where you have to think, plan a route ahead to where you need to go or figure out a puzzle.
The game kept me entertained while playing, I quickly adapted to the controls without actually referring to the manual and this game provided overall entertainment from start to finish. Even after completing there is so much more to do, like you can try and collect all the treasure that you missed while playing the first time, bonus chapters also.
I look forward to playing the sequel now.
Uncharted Rocks June 13, 2010 Mohammad Alabdullah (Amman - Jordan) I bought PS3 3 months ago and almost every website recommend Uncharted2 as one of the best PS3 games ever ... i did not watn to play Uncharted 2 before playing Uncharted 1, so i bought it and i think its worth every penny ...
I LOVE the game ... but i think the only drawback is that its kindda short ... i.e. after 9 hours of play i got an indication that i completed 75% of the game ... other than that, the game is amazingly addictive ....
Absolutely Superb May 25, 2010 Duncan McDonald (Dundee) I am aware that the sequel to this game gets a lot of rave reviews but I was undecided whether i'd like it or not. I decided to take the cowards way out and bought the first release. Glad I did. It is excellent.
This game is a Tomb Raider clone. I love Lara as much as the next guy but I always found TR to contain too much exploration, nee aimless wandering about, which translates to boredom in my world. The main difference with this game is that it fast paced and full of action.
The whole game oozes quality. The story is good, Nate is a funny and entertaining character, controls work well, the graphics and score are excellent. You are on the hunt for Sir Frances Drakes treasure in good old El Dorado. The game is full of exciting set pieces that are challenging but achievable. Great stuff. Health is recoverable, the game saves frequently and there is a handy hint system if you get stuck.
Overall, this is a premium quality PS3 title that is well worth adding to your collection. You won't regret it. If I do have a gripe its the fire fights. There is one through every door way and it is over played. Other than that it is top notch.
As for Uncharted 2. Already acquired.
:o)
tomb raider has lost its crown May 9, 2010 shinobi (uk) A great game all the way through, varied levels in terms of design and gameplay with a cinematic story and well acted characters. A good mix of platform style jumping a la tomb raider, with the shooting action that was such a hit with tomb raider 2 on the playstation 1. Played the sequel first but then this is just as good.
